11th Annual Educational Symposium
May 16-18, 2001
Sheraton Uptown Hotel - Albuquerque, New Mexico
Dear Wound Healing Colleagues:
We look forward to your participation in the 11th Annual Educational Symposium
of the Wound Healing Society. As always our mission is to advance the science
and practice of wound healing. Our scientific programs, moderators, keynote
speakers, and exhibitors will provide interactive opportunities for basic
scientists, clinical professionals, and industrial participants. This year
we are pleased to present electronic abstract submissions. The deadline
for abstract submission is December 15, 2000. We urge you not to wait
until the last minute.
We have designed 3 full days of scientific sessions and social gatherings
in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon arrival at the Albuquerque International
Sunport, you will be treated to panoramic views of desert landscape (average
humidity 37%) nestled within the glowing red peaks of the majestic Sandia
Mountain range (10,500 ft elevation). The Uptown Sheraton Hotel (Awarded
Best of the West) will serve as our meeting site.
Attendees will find that WHS has entered the next millennium with new approaches
to both wound care and meeting format. On Days 1 & 2 we will begin our meetings
with a continental breakfast served up during interactive poster presentations
and visit to the exhibits. Plenary Session Moderators will provide cohesive
overviews for each session - Gene Therapy, Transgenic Models of Wound Repair,
Angiogenesis, Protolysis. Keynote Speakers Fiona Watt and Hari Reddi will
expand our horizons. A choice of Industry Sponsored Luncheon Symposia will
be available on all 3 days. This year's grand finale will occur on the afternoon
of Day 3. It will be entitled, "At the Clinical Edge: Advanced Clinical
Care." and will be delivered by a panel of distinguished clinicians. After
a 5 year hiatus, we are again offering a practical continuing educational
training course targeted for regional wound care professionals or industry
marketing executives. Warren Garner MD (Course Director) and his team of
experts will conduct this "Fundamental ABCs of Wound Care" course on Friday
morning (limited to 75 participants). In the afternoon, those attending
this one-day educational course will be encouraged to join us for the Industry
Sponsored Luncheon Symposia and either our afternoon scientific abstract
session or the Advanced Clinical Care with Distinguished Clinicians.
Social, sightseeing and networking opportunities will be varied and numerous.
On Day 1 we will breakaway in the mid-afternoon for southwestern sightseeing
options to the Old Towne Spanish Plaza, the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway,
or the Botanical Gardens. Day 1 will conclude with an Opening Night Grand
Reception/Cocktail Dinner back at the Sheraton Hotel. Night #2 will feature
an off-site social gathering at the 4-star El Pinta restaurant complete
with entertainment (transportation provided). This year we are suggest that
you consider bringing along an accompanying person for there a numerous
places of interest - the Old Pueblo Cultural Center, Rio Grande Nature Center,
the Petroglyph National monuments, New Mexico's largest shopping mall/Coronado
Center to name a few. You might just want to linger in this southwestern
